Home | About Us  | The Guild
The Gold and Silversmiths Guild of Australia began in 1988 to provide a set of common goals for professionals who work in precious metals.  A Goldsmith. Silversmith, or Jeweller who is a member of the Guild will have met the high standards of service and workmanship as set out under the Guild's constitution.

Guild members in the course of their application will have submitted a piece of their work for assessment by their peers.  A person obtaining membership of the guild will have reached those standards required by the guild and is then registered to use the guild membership mark.

The Guild membership mark must only be used on gold, silver, platinum, or their alloys, and must always be accompanied by the members mark.  The makers marks of the guild members are recorded on fine silver touch plates.

The members makers marks are kept in such a manner as to enable a work marked by a member to identified with certainty at any time in the future.

The recognition of the Guild membership mark on jewellery or other works in precious metals will present the consumer in Australia with an important set of guarantees:

  • You will always be able to identify the designer and maker of the article you have purchased.
  • You will know that the maker is a professional who will guarantee the quality of materials and craftsmanship.
  • You will know that the article is make of precious metals that meet the purity criteria of the Standards Association of Australia.
The Gold and Silversmiths Guild of Australia also has a wider role in the community in actively supporting the training and development of the Gold and Silversmith and educating of both the government and the community in general on the role of the Gold and Silversmith in our society.
